Last week another person showed a picture of a quilt she'd been wanting to make for many years. Now I can't recall who it was, but for me seeing that quilt was a light bulb moment. I knew what I would show for Pink Saturday this week.
When I was pregnant with our second son in 1970 my friend taught me how to crochet squares for a baby afghan. I sat for hours making little pink and blue squares. Back then no one knew beforehand what they were having, so I made my squares in both colors so the afghan could be used for a boy or a girl. The predominant color was pink. Needless to say, I never finished. Throughout the years the unfinished afghan moved with us numerous times. It always had a place of honor on the top shelf of my closet. I had good intentions and always intended to finish. I thought I might get it done for the birth of our third son in 1976. Then I thought I might finish it someday if I ever had grandchildren (which I don't). Many years (39 to be exact) have gone by and now I don't even remember how to finish it!
And of course, little Zoom had to check things out. She was a big help while I was taking pictures.
Oops! If I ever get around to finishing it I wouldn't want to be missing a square. :)
I bought all the yarn while we were living in Sicily. That means my unfinished afghan has traveled from Sicily to NJ, Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas, back to Oklahoma, and finally back to Texas. If nothing else, it's well traveled.
And since it's also Valentine's Day my Chatty Cathy's had to get into the act. Here are two of them all dressed up in pink for this special day. The one on the left is wearing an adorable pink Valentine's Day sweater under her jacket. You can see the hearts peeking out. I recently won the sweater in a contest that Loretta at House of Houben ran on her blog. The one on the right is wearing a pretty Valentine's Day dress that Loretta made a few years ago. Loretta has been sick all week, so I hope she sees this and it helps to cheer her up.
Have a wonderful Pink Saturday/Valentine's Day! See you next week.
Happy Pink Saturday and Happy Valentine's Day Betty!

Betty, that is the cutest kitty photo, and the cutest Chatty photo! I'd forgotten all about that dress & the sweater looks so cute...Guess what I have? Bronchitis. Now I feel really stupid as I've had this on and off all my life and you'd think I'd learn by now to go to the Dr the moment I can't breathe. I've taken one pill and it's already working. The raspy wheeze has died down. Have a very spectacular Happy Pink Day and Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteYou'll just have to learn how to put those blocks together when that special grandbaby comes along! ;>)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Valentine's Day, Betty!
Happy Valentine's day Betty and Happy Pink Saturday...if you take a peek at my blog for today, there is a very pretty quilt on it also! My Chatties are still dressed for Christmas so I had to reuse an old picture from years gone by instead of a new one! Your chatties look darling in their Loretta creations!!

When I was pregnant with my youngest daughter I crocheted a hair pin lace baby blanket, it was the first & last thing I ever crocheted.
Hope you had a lovely Valentines day.
Blessings ~Mary~n :-}
In regards to your post about your mother's wedding dress--I have a wonderful vintage dress that fits perfect with the look of our powder room. I put a fancy hook up on the back of the door, put the dress on a pretty hangar, and so visitors to my powder room get to enjoy this great dress! I do worry about a kiddo wiping their hands, so I have plenty of towels in there!
ReplyDeleteLove their little shoes. Your mothers' wedding dress is precious. Hugs, Rosemarie
ReplyDeleteBetty ~ Thanks for answering my question about Chatty Cathy - I'll keep my eye out for them!

Btw, my Amy just loves your dolls! She is in the process of saving up her birthday money to buy herself a new Amercian Girl Doll - she wants Molly. Have you ever been to the American Girl store in NYC?? It is amazing! I'll tell you all about it sometime.
Kim
Hi Betty,
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
I LOVE the sweet little blocks that you made! I have many projects sitting undone in my sewing room - some date back to when my children were very young. Also - it's never too late to finish up a project either. You could probably find a pattern online that matches the one that you were making.
You could also make it into a pillow or use the blocks sewn together for little satchets for your dresser.
I love them displayed in the basket just how you have it. Your kitty obviously does too!
Have a blessed day today,
Kymber
Cute cute cute. All of it. I love how your yarn squares have traveled so much!
