Yes, I know I've been neglecting this blog, but I decided to drop by and say Merry Christmas! I just don't spend as much time online these days. I had hoped I'd do better, but there's only so much time in a day.
I told some doll friends that I was trying to find time to work on a doll scene for Christmas. Sometimes I just have to find time to play.
Did you know that it snows in Houston? Mostly in my imagination although we actually had a few flurries a few weeks ago, but nothing like the snow I grew up with in New Jersey. So, I have to use my imagination and let my dolls have snow.
This is one of my modern Vogue Ginny Dolls. Some of you know her as GinnyFaith. I've been neglecting her and decided she should appear in some photos again. I used to include her in just about all of the photos I took of my dolls. Then the Vogue Doll Company came out with vintage reproduction Ginnys and I kind of lost interest in the modern dolls. I'm sorry GinnyFaith!
Here's a close up so you can see her spiffy outfit. My friend Sherelyn gave this to GinnyFaith last year. Her doll has the same outfit and so does SHE! I always meant to ask her where she found them. It's not often that you see a grown woman and her doll dressed alike.
Some of them tried ice skating for the first time and fell on the imaginary ice. The Madame Alexander Doll on the left is skiing. She's wearing one of the Ginny outfits that I still have from my childhood by Vogue (Fun Time #49 from 1954). The Madame Alexander skater in the gray and peach outfit is also wearing an outfit from my childhood by Vogue (Fun Time #47 from 1955 - It's actually suppose to be a roller skating outfit.) The vintage reproduction Ginny in the white skating outfit I got at a Fire Flies Convention. The 1954 Ginny Painted Lash Walker is wearing a vintage ski outfit by Vogue (Fun Time #49 from 1955). I added the red mittens because her hands looked cold. They didn't come with the outfit originally. The AA Modern Ginny that took a fall is wearing an outfit that my friend Karen Mowery made for a Ginny Doll list event.
I stood her up so you could see the outfit. Karen sewed outfits for our dolls for the month of January. She chose to make ice skating outfits. Ginny's name is embroidered on the hat but it doesn't show in the photo. Karen loved to sew and especially loved to quilt. Sadly, she passed away way too soon. I'm fortunate enough to have several outfits that she made. My doll is also wearing a sweater my mom knitted using a kit that Vogue sold (#7869 Knit Kit in 1957). I also have the matching hat she made. This sweater was actually made for a Ginnette doll, but it's the only one I still have. The sleeves are a little bit long for Ginny. I feel very fortunate to still have it. The kit had directions and wool to make sweater sets for the Jill, Ginny and Ginnette dolls.
This is a close up of the terrible fall they took. (I would have had them standing and skating if I could have figured out how to balance them on ice skates!)
They worked hard building this igloo and making all the snow balls in case any stupid boys came by. That's a modern Hispanic Ginny on top of the igloo in her snowsuit. On the right is a vintage reproduction Ginny wearing a pink and gray ski outfit that Vogue made (Fun Time #6049 from 1956).
On the right is a vintage Nancy Ann Muffie doll wearing her Santa suit minus the correct hat. I put a more traditional Santa hat on her but the reds were different and it had white trim that was whiter than the fur on her suit. I settled on the red and white striped hat but I'd sure like to find the original hat that came with this outfit. I added the red glasses because I thought she looked cute in them. I have maybe four or five Muffie dolls in my collection, but the Vogue Ginny doll is really my first love.
We all with you a Merry Christmas!
On more thing...
This is one of my Chatty Cathy dolls. She's still dressed in her Houston Astros uniform that she wore for the World Series. I bought her Christmas apron down at MD Anderson Cancer Center. It was designed by a child with cancer. I left the tag on because it gives the child's name and age. I wasn't sure if it would fit Chatty Cathy when I bought it. I probably would have gotten another one if I had known for sure. It was made for the American Girl Doll. There's a matching child's apron and a matching one for adults. I thought it was really cute.
Merry Christmas once more and I'll be back again some day...

Doll Room Reveal...
People have asked to see pictures of my doll room in the new house. The pictures have been delayed because of the stupid computer crash. I wasn't even bothering to take pictures for a while, but now that I'm using PicMonkey I'm back in the photo business.
The doll room is far from finished, but there are no longer boxes or large plastic containers on the floor. My friend Sherelyn came one day and helped me unpack some of the stuff. A lot of my little doll rooms aren't completely set up and the shelves sometimes have things just stuffed in there out of the way, but one of these days I'll get it done. A lot of the dolls aren't dressed and are patiently waiting for some attention. Please excuse their appearance.
When this house was built back in the 1980's there were two living areas...a living room and a den. This was the living room which the previous owners used as an office. The lady that lived here told me that her husband built all the shelves. When I first saw this room I knew it would be my doll room!
With that all said...here are some pictures.

Welcome to the doll room!
The Chatty Cathys are front and center. I don't have them all set up yet and their little area needs some more work. My brother-in-law worked for American Greetings years ago and these were some cases taken out of a store. The card racks would have been on top. This is two of them back to back. The drawers are great for storage.
Charmin Chatty is there too. Normally, one of the cats would be sleeping in Chatty's bed. (It's become Roscoe's favorite place to sleep.)
I call these two my "make believe grandkids." They're sitting in Sunday School chairs. I found these one year at the Round Top Antique Show. They're just like the ones we used to sit in at Sunday School back in the 1950's.
I keep some dolls that are special to me in this doll case. My favorite doll is the Vogue Ginny Doll and there are some vintage reproduction Ginny Dolls on the top shelf.
This case hold my collection of AA Ginny Dolls. All are reproductions except for the 1954 AA Ginny that my friend Karen left to me. She is on the bottom shelf in the center. I love the AA dolls. I think the clothes look so much better on them.
I have two of these cabinets that I bought for $50 each at Home Depot on clearance some years back. The shelves are nice and deep and I use them to set up rooms and scenes. I use the bottom shelves for storage.
They have doors I can close to keep cats out! I really need to get all the dolls organized and the rooms set up right. I usually keep my vintage Ginnys in these two cabinets so they're not exposed to the light.
I keep props stored on top of the cabinets. I've had an idea for a Christmas pageant scene ever since I bought the church at a store that was going out of business. It's really cute with little Ginny size pews and hymnals. A doll friend gave me the school bus. It's great for when Ginny goes back to school in September. The dolls also have a blue Mustang. (I used to have one the same color.)
On the built in shelves I have dolls and doll books. I also have some of the kids' childhood books and Fisher Price toys. Also, photos and some of my childhood books. This shelf has some of my Mickey Mouse Club themed dolls.
I've tried to combine my two loves in one...dolls and NFL football. (I know it's a strange combination.) Yes, Ginny is a Texans football fan too! That's actually one of the boy dolls that Vogue makes wearing a football uniform that I made. The helmet was an antenna ball that one of the fast food places gave out the first year the Texans came into being. I pulled out the ball and the helmet fit on the doll's head. It's a flexible plastic. The ones they now sell at the stadium are a hard plastic and won't go on the doll.
This is the Brownie/Girl Scout shelf. They all belong to troop 33. That was my childhood troop number. I bought all the uniforms on eBay, added the troop number, and made most of the hats.
I wanted to have Cub Scouts too, so Carla (she sells on eBay) made the shirts and shorts and I added the Cub Scout patches, scarves, and hats. She also sewed the Den Mother's skirt and blouse.
In this corner I have some more doll rooms. These are modular shelves that were sold at Target at one time. I was so disappointed when they were discontinued before I had all that I wanted. They're nice and deep...deeper than book shelves. I had Plexiglas cut to size and it's attached to each shelf with Velcro to keep cats and dust out. I haven't finished setting all these rooms up either. That big thing to the left is a cat climbing tree. I share the doll room with cats! They love watching lizards out the window.
Now you've seen my happy place. This is where I go to relieve some of the stress in my life. I can't help but smile when I walk into this room. Now I have a place where all my dolls can be together. Before they were spread out around the house. In fact, it wasn't until we were moving over here that I finally realized how much doll stuff I owned. My husband used to say, "Betty, you've got an awful lot of stuff." He was right!

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY-HAPPY 4th OF JULY TOO!
Today I'm joining Beverly over at How Sweet The Sound for Pink Saturday. For a list of participants and information on how you can join in on the fun head over to Beverly's blog. This week we're showing pink and/or July 4th pictures.
I don't have any pink to show, but I do have some pictures I took at our local parade on the 4th of July in a previous year. Yes, I actually took one of my vintage Chatty Cathy dolls to the parade.
She was all excited...
She couldn't wait to join in the fun...
She proudly joined the parade down the main street of town...
Ooops...
She decided it would be better to just sit and watch...
HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!

HAPPY THIRD BIRTHDAY PINK SATURDAY!
Today Beverly over at How Sweet The Sound is throwing a party for Pink Saturday's Third Birthday!
How time flies! I'm afraid I haven't done a Pink Saturday post in a long time. Perhaps a year or so, but real life sometimes gets in the way and I also found myself running out of pinkness. When I received Beverly's E-mail about Pink Saturday's big day I knew I'd have to participate I hate to miss a party.
I've found Blogger to be a little finicky lately and I'm hoping I can post some pictures. Usually when I have trouble I just sign out and then sign in again and things are OK, but for the last couple of days I have had trouble signing out. Good thing I'm not on a public computer.
I've also been having trouble leaving comments on blogs that have the little pull down menu for "Comment As: Select Profile." For some reason it wants me to sign in again (even though I'm already signed in) and then it still won't put the comment through. I've gone around in circles signing in again and again to no avail. Anyone else having trouble?
I decided I'd repeat some of my previous Pink Saturday photographs since some of you are probably new and hopefully the rest of you are as forgetful as me and it will be like new again.
I'm a doll collector and often showed my dolls in pink...
The first one is my childhood Ginny doll...a 1954 Bent Knee Walker. The rest of the dolls were collected in recent years.
Like the pink squares I crocheted over 40 years ago when I was pregnant with my second son. I started putting a blue border around them, but never finished. (Back then we had no way of knowing if it was a boy or girl.) I keep thinking I'll get this finished someday, but I no longer remember how to crochet them. I also bought the wool while we were living in Italy, so it's not like I could get more if needed.
OK...now Blogger wants to center the text ever since I added that last picture and I'm not going to argue.
I've always liked this bag with the pink trim...
And my sweet little Zoom in her pink bed.
OK...now the text is no longer centered. I think I better get this post published before something else happens.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PINK SATURDAY!!
This font is supposed to be pink, but it's really more of a mauve because I was hoping it would be easier to read. Is it working?
Now head over to Beverly's blog for a list of this week's participants and information on how you can join the party.
Thank you Beverly for organizing and keeping track of Pink Saturday!

Vintage Cards and Chatty Cathy for PINK SATURDAY
Today for PINK SATURDAY I'm going to share some vintage birthday cards that I received as a child. My mother saved them intending to add them to my childhood scrapbook. On the back of each card she put the year and my initials. They're from 1951 or 1952 and they all have some PINK on them. For a list of PINK SATURDAY participants, and to find out what PINK SATURDAY is all about, just click on the PINK SATURDAY logo on my sidebar.
I love looking at these old vintage cards. They're so different from what is made today. Feel free to help yourself to any of these cards. I enjoy sharing.

This one is a pop-up card and is really cute when opened, but impossible to scan that way.
I must have been mad at my sister because my mother added the year and initials and I added a note about my sister. I had never noticed that before and it was only as I turned the card over to scan it that I saw what I had written.
Some of you might remember Chatty Cathy from your childhood. Do you remember this commercial?
Although I have some Chatty Cathys in my doll collection I never played with her as a child. She came out in 1959 and by then I was interested in boys...not dolls. This week I was in an antique store and spotted an old tin stove for my Chattys. It had been $40, but was marked down to $20. I know I've posted a picture of this doll in her pink dress before, but I wanted to show off my new/old stove and she is wearing pink.
