Today for PINK SATURDAY I'm going to share some vintage birthday cards that I received as a child. My mother saved them intending to add them to my childhood scrapbook. On the back of each card she put the year and my initials. They're from 1951 or 1952 and they all have some PINK on them. For a list of PINK SATURDAY participants, and to find out what PINK SATURDAY is all about, just click on the PINK SATURDAY logo on my sidebar.
I love looking at these old vintage cards. They're so different from what is made today. Feel free to help yourself to any of these cards. I enjoy sharing.
This one is a pop-up card and is really cute when opened, but impossible to scan that way.
I must have been mad at my sister because my mother added the year and initials and I added a note about my sister. I had never noticed that before and it was only as I turned the card over to scan it that I saw what I had written.
Some of you might remember Chatty Cathy from your childhood. Do you remember this commercial?
Although I have some Chatty Cathys in my doll collection I never played with her as a child. She came out in 1959 and by then I was interested in boys...not dolls. This week I was in an antique store and spotted an old tin stove for my Chattys. It had been $40, but was marked down to $20. I know I've posted a picture of this doll in her pink dress before, but I wanted to show off my new/old stove and she is wearing pink.

I love those old cards! They are so cute, I especially love that you wrote in them. So cute!
ReplyDeleteThat commercial is awesome. It seems quite long too. The narrator's voice sounds so familiar. I wonder who it was - maybe he did a lot of voice overs. Reminds me of an actor who was on The Twilight Zone perhaps.

Oh, Betty. That stove is the perfect size for Chatty.

Your vintage cards are so cute. I also posted vintage cards for my Pink Saturday post. Stop by and see them.
ReplyDeleteLove the Chatty dolls and the new stove is a great addition.
Happy Pink Saturday.
What a wonderful Pink Saturday post! I just ♥ the fact that each of us shares such a variety of items - that's one reason why this event is never boring. Always something fun, new, lovely or interesting around the corner.
ReplyDeleteI ♥ those cards and the little notes. Isn't it fun to remember the past - especially when there are such good memories to recall?
Thanks for sharing a part of yourself today☺ Cold, gloomy day today but, as always, bright and sunny on the Pink Saturday blogs.
♫Wishing you sunshine and happiness this weekend!♫
I remember Chatty Cathy well! I had one called Chatty Baby. I really liked Cathy better because Chatty Baby talked baby talk. LOL! And I'm surprised that Mama bought her instead... she never talked baby talk to us, and we sounded like little adults. LOL! Funny the things you remember.
ReplyDeleteLoved your vintage cards, too.
Happy Pink Saturday...
XO,
Sheila :-)

Betty! It's so nice to meet another Betty. I love your vintage cards. Thanks for sharing. My hubby was born in 1952 and I have his cards that his mom saved. I told him that I think that everyone thought he was a girl because they are so pretty. LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Pink Saturday! I will be back again!

Wow! I can't believe your mom saved those cards. What a treasure! Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope you'll stop by again soon! Happy Pink! Tammy
ReplyDeleteSeeing Chatty Cathy, your old birthday cards and your handwriting (as a child) on lined paper made my day. This was an adorable post.

Such lovely cards. You are so lucky to still have them! Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI love both of your little dolly cards. They look like some that were made by Hallmark, although I do not see that written anywhere on these cards when I enlarged. I love paper dolls, so these two are right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteYour cards are BEAUTIFUL! Happy Pink Saturday!!
ReplyDeleteI love the old cards! The pictures are so CUTE! The Chatty Cathy picture is precious!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the previous info on reading the blogs at Beverly's. That will be a HUGE help!
Happy PS!
Donna
The vintage cards are all cute! :-) I enjoyed your little notes too. Had to laugh at the one written about your sister LOL You are so lucky to have them still. You must not have remembered exactly the moment when it happened but to see your own handwriting when you were little is precious! :-)
ReplyDeletehappy Pink Saturday!

I had a Chatty Cathy. I received her for my fourth birthday. I sort of remember thinking she was a miracle at first and then losing interest. I was such an easy sell when it came to toy commercials - I'm sure it drove my mother crazy. Your little stove is precious and such a bargain!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting us for Pink Saturday. Your kitties are wonderful. I am thinking about your Feral cat who is missing. I hope she returns safely. I love your card collection. They are beautiful and so special. Thank you for sharing.

Love it! Vintage!
ReplyDeleteHi Betty,
ReplyDeleteIf I saw that stove I would have bought it also. It is just too cute. I love how you set up and display your dolls.

How fun to see the Chatty Cathy commercial again. I had her, but didn't think she was particularly pretty ~ she had freckles like me! Ugh!

Darling cards and your note about your sis cracks me up! I'm just a wee bit jealous about your Chatty Cathy find ;) I did have one as a child and she was my bud. One time I played a prank on my mother with mine. My CC doll had dark hair like i did and on a school morning I got up and ready for school but put my CC doll in bed and scrunched up the covers to her head. My mom came in scolding me for still being in bed and I popped up (all ready for school) from the side of my bed. Good one! (I thought ;)
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm praying for Mama kitty to show herself to you so you'll know she's o.k. Let us know, okay?
Hi Betty; the cards are just darling! I have some of mine. They are lovely; made so sweet and differently. I love your new CC stove too!
