"W" as in WIND for Alphabe-Thursday

Welcome to Alphabe-Thursday sponsored by Ms. Jenny at Jenny Matlock..."off on my tangent."
This week we are studying the letter "W" as in WIND.  Last Friday we had quite a storm.  It couldn't have happened at a better time.  There was lots of WIND and rain.  I needed a "W" word and the weatherman cooperated.

We walked out to this on Saturday morning.
That's my son in the background.  We worked on Saturday and Sunday cleaning up the mess.  For some reason I completely forgot to take pictures of the backyard.  You'll notice that our next door neighbor's yard was fine.  In fact, I think we had the biggest mess.  The wind ripped my flag and flagpole off the tree and into the driveway.  The bracket broke right off.
We filled up trashcans with sticks.  There were more sticks, but I ran out of trashcans.  When the landscapers came to mow on Wednesday they took the rest of them away.  We had two large branches and Troy came over and cut them up for us.

Here's the view down the street.  The neighbor on our other side has two large pine trees in his front yard just like us.  Can you see the little pile he put down by the curb?  That's all he had!
We didn't lose our electricity, but some in the neighborhood did for 22 hours.  My neighbor was telling me yesterday about a couple of homes in the neighborhood with blue tarps on their roofs.  I also heard about a fence going down and I saw a large tree cut up and left at the curb on the next block.  Overall our street fared pretty well.  It was mostly in our yard!

I guess you could say this was a dress rehearsal for hurricane season.

Now head over to Ms. Jenny's blog for a list of this week's participants.  Thanks for visiting.

  1. We had heavy winds come through here too, Betty. It seems that has been taking up my time as well!!!...:)JP

  2. Oh my goodness - that was quite a storm there girl - glad you were all okay and the house.

We are supposed to get a BAD one tomorrow.

  3. We had a wind storm last week and it blew some of the fascia off my roof! I've got to call someone to replace it, I'm too old for ladders...

  4. I feel much these wind damage, nature spares nothing in its path!

  5. I like how you take your storm in stride -- "a dress rehearsal for hurricane season." I live in California where it has been a long while since we've had a wicked storm. Best wishes to you.

  6. Great post and photos for W ~ glad everyone is safe ~ Mother Nature can be wild!

    Happy Weekend to you,
    artmusedog and carol
ps. Internet server down yesterday ~ rerouting lines and some got broken ~ back ~ playing catch up ^_^

  7. Hi not sure about the circle shape, but wood is very precious to the Maoris . Talking about your fallen branches, we have very strict rulings about falling trees. Just this week, the property manager had to fell a native tree. He was hot in the collar when people complained. He said, much as he love the tree, the tree is rotten, and would hate to see the tree on on the school kids. I joke, had I known, I would chain myself to that tree.

  8. That was quite a strong wind ! We had that two weeks ago !

  9. Anonymous2:29 AM

I commented a few days ago and see it did not get through! Wind can give a lot of mess! Since we live in the mountains at high altitude, the wind can wreak guite a lot of havoc. Glad you got it all cleaned up!)

  10. Isn't it amazing the damage wind can do and the way it hits some places worse than others even close together like you and your neighbour.
